Health Sciences Students Educational Environment Measured Using Dandee Ready Educational Environment Measure- A Systematic Review of Studies

ABSTRACT
Background: Traditionally the health sciences students go through a structured curriculum spread over 5 years. The curriculum is heavy with factual information and also involves interaction with patients. The interaction with actual patients is restricted due to ethical considerations.
There are 120 studies done during year 2000 to 2019 to know the perceptions of health sciences students concerning their educational environment using different tools like DREEM, MEEM, PHEEM, STEEM. We have collected the study details using PubMed, Google Scholar databases and done systematic review focusing on DREEM Tool, Overall Score.
The participants are from medical schools across the globe. The total participants 35,679. The highest DREEM Score is 170 and Lowest 90giving an Average of 119, The common student perceptions are Teachers are authoritarians, Over emphasis on Factual Learning, Limited Scope to put Fact into Practice.
Conclusion: In all these studies one common finding is global score 121±15.33 and over emphasis on factual learning Perhaps opportunities to be given for experiential learning as in 70:20:10 Personal Development Model. The patient care activities can be from “R (reception)………..to……….. Rx R dash (prescription)”.
